Slum Dog Millionaire

Slumdog Millionaire ... Simply superb movie by a world renowned director Danny Boyle.

There was a debate on CNN-IBN (Face the nation) over Slumdog Millionaire. The debate tries to potray Slumdog Millionaire as the poverty porn. But in reality its not, the film is about resilient India, the ability of the people to face the most daunting situations and still be able to come out of it strong. I seriously think that the host Sagarika Ghose has got this one completely wrong.

There was also a debate about western stereotype about India's poverty. I am not sure which West she is talking about but most of the westerners if not all see India as a traditionally, cuturally, intectually rich country. The western world keenly follows the BSE stock exchange as they realize that India is the next big thing. I have seen enough of the western world to safely say that they dont see India as a third world country any more.

Some sections of the media has criticized Danny Boyle that he glamorized Indian poverty. But the fact is that the movie shows the uncut version of Indian slums, begging rackets. Danny Boyle has done an excellent job in showing gruesome reality of the Indian slum and the resilience of Indians to come out of daunting situations shining.

This debate once again proves that we Indians are overly sensitive.

Has ISLAM become a Synonym for Terrorism ?

The recent past suggests that most terrorists around the world follow Islam, but lets not make Islam a Synonym for Terrorism.

Recent attack on the Indian Financial Capital has opened the age old wounds between the two neighbouring nations. This attack was not on any relegion, it was on the Indians. The only motive behind this kind of attack is to create a kind of insecurity and to hamper the prosperity of India. India is on such a fast track of development and these kind of attacks are creating a sense of insecurity in its citizens alright but this will not hamper the prosperity of India.

Its Irony that once India and Pakistan shared a lot of things (ofcourse before the seperation), they used to share the land, culture and values. Now they share nothing. It is an ardent fact that Pakistan is a Islamic state and India is a Secular state and it has been for many Centuries. These terrorists from across the border enjoy the support of few very few muslims in India, but by and large muslims in India are as peace loving as one could possibly imagine. So, after being an integral part of India for many centuries and equally contributing to the success of India whether it be cricket or chandrayaan, How should the muslims in India feel?

They must be a very dissapointed that these terrorists follow the same relegion as them and they are bringing the ill repute for the relegion. But in my opinion Muslims in India equally feel the pain of these terrorist attacks because they are also an Indian by every thought. These terrorists might follow the same relegion but I am sure that they donot have the same values as majority of muslims in Indians share.

So, I would request one and all not to call this Islamic terrorism, rather call it TERRORSIM.

Jai Hind.
